Ed Crenshaw says it’s all been a big accident, one after another. But however unplanned it was, he’s now running yet another bakery and this one is selling high-end cakes straight to the consumer instead of commercial cakes to grocery stores.
Crenshaw and his daughter Miller Cowan came up with the idea to start Sugar Avenue bakery in the early days of COVID. Crenshaw has operated a commercial bakery in the old Lipsey’s building on Summer Avenue for about 15 years and has been in the baking business close to 30.
On Sound Bites he tells us how he ended up baking cakes, including the ones available at restaurants such as Central BBQ and Germantown and Collierville Commissary, and those whole cakes at Elwood’s Shack that saw my family and me through the early days of COVID.
